Windmill research

Here are a few examples of what I looked at when modelling my version of a windmill.

The windmill

Ok so now we were looking at adding something to our scene to animate it a little more. Seeing as we wanted this scene to be very old fashioned it was important that we didnt add anything that would give away the period in time it was set for example internet cafes and telephone boxes with bt signs were no going to be included. We needed to have something which not only has its own animation (that moves) but something which can be a very old feature. I came up with the idea then of using a windmill for it. A windmill could be used at any time period since planes have been invented and therefore would be perfect. It would also add to the overall animation of the scence. I told the group and they liked it enough so I began to look into basic windmills old and new.

Environment completed

Ok so now to apply the grass texture to the terrain which was easy and then we have our completed environment. Now we needed to look at what else would be needed for it.

The Skydome

Ok Nathan helped me with this and we basically got a sphere made from polygons in Maya and made it as big as we could and then cut the bottom half out so that we could apply a sky texture to it and put the terrain in the middle.

Terrain Continued

As we can see now we just need to smooth it and then add a skydome and apply texture.

Modelling the terrain

Ok so now I will show you the terrain which i modelled which was as simple asectruding the vertex of a simple plane and the smoothing it. As we can see I have slight declines in it for effect although we didnt want it too steep.

The next step

Ok well now we had the completed storyboard and idea of what we wanted to do it was time to set the tasks to eachother. Deepa began to model the character which she was very keen to do whilst Nathan began to model the plane. This left the terrain to me which was something I hadnt done yet so began to look at images of different types of terrain. We wanted to keep it simple and not to spend too much time on it. Below are some of the images I looked into. As we can see they are similar and all quite rough and extreme hills and bends on it. We didnt neccessarily want this for our project as we wanted to keep it simple however i llooked into the different types. I was told also that it doesnt need to be very big as we would only need a small section of it for our project.
